Caltrain is the commuter train of the San Francisco Bay area, running from San Jose to San Francisco. In Fall 2011, my class was approached to experience the Caltrain – riding, buying tickets, observing, and interviewing – to discover a way to improve its experience. I collaborated with Nick Chen, Kristin Leach, and Will Jarve to build a suite of business solutions in response to our research. Our final deliverable was a process video suggesting development of local business to give each Caltrain station a taste of the local culture.
Perhaps the most challenging part of this project was distilling our many interviews, insights, and suggestions into a final proposal. Ultimately, sharing our ideas with the Caltrain Board of Directors clued us into the management's priorities, giving us constraints for a promising solution.
