As part of ME 112: Mechanical Systems Design, I built the Stag Beetle with Mykel Braswell, Alex Chang, and Jasmine Lee. The objective was to explore transmission design for maximizing output efficiency. The Stag Beetle efficiently climbed a wooden column and stopped without slipping. I was key in our team to develop a plethora of mechanism options.
For this project, we prototyped using Lego motors, gears, and wheels. We calculated gear ratios and tested rolling and static friction to develop an efficient assembly.
