As Product Design Engineer at medical device startup Pelvalon, Inc in the Summer of 2012, I was tasked to bring innovation to the company and to develop patient-friendly accessories to their product. At the time, Pelvalon was in clinical trial phase of their cutting-edge device to help women with bowel control problems. I developed three accessories for the device: a redesigned hand pump, an effective DIY insertion tool, and an ergonomic removal tool.*
To develop these accessories, I spent time understanding the women patients’ abilities and difficulties, including time behind the curtain during medical appointments. I then brought insights back to the design and manufacturing teams through brainstorms, drawings, rapid prototyping, and Solidworks designs. Below are my top three pump industrial designs.
